This listing is for Watts Mill Bridge in Darlington, PA of Beaver County. The Watts Mill Road Bridge is a historic pin-connected Pratt pony truss constructed in 1878 by the Penn Bridge Company of  Beaver Falls, PA.  The bridge carried Watts Mill Road (State Route 4009) over the North Fork of the Little Beaver Creek in Beaver County until it was closed to traffic in 2014.  The bridge is comprised of two spans which total 109 feet in length; the width of the bridge is 15 feet.  This bridge is one of the earliest remaining bridges built by this important Pennsylvania bridge building company and is also a rare example of a multi-span continuous design pony truss.  It is also one of few remaining bridges constructed of wrought iron left in the Commonwealth.  This bridge is being auctioned with a requirement that it be preserved and adaptively reused; it cannot be purchased for any scrap value.  For more information on the bridge, including information on its condition, contact Kara Russell with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation at 717-705-1484 or krussell@pa.gov.

In regards to the funds: In exchange for the successful purchaser agreeing to keep the bridge in Beaver County and open to the public, PennDOT is willing to make $500,000 available for rehabilitation of the bridge. These funds would otherwise be used for demolition. This will require a separate agreement between the successful purchaser and PennDOT. Thank you
